PBS completed 10 luxury beachside bures and 4 garden bungalows with decks and courtyards along with a central facility building, swimming pool, custom–made furniture and reception area within a seven-month timeframe.
MANGO BAY RESORT FIJI
Mango Bay Resort was envisioned as a tropical haven that would cater for the diverse range of clientele from all over the world. Influenced by Fijian Architecture, adorned with local art, furnishings and largely Fijian materials with spacious outdoor showers.
Located adjacent to the beach, the wide and expansive Beach Front Bures boasts a spectacular tropical setting, designed to present a traditional façade and thatched roof while taking full advantage of balmy sea breezes and natural cooling beckoning those who require the sight of surf and sand when they raise the curtains. The Garden Villas are attractively set in amongst lush tropical vegetation, minutes from the beach and conveniently situated on manicured grounds overlooking the vast gardens.

THE WESTIN RESORT & SPA FIJI
Accessible to all guests in the integrated Five Star Resort complex comprising of The Westin Resort & Spa Denarau Island, Sheraton Fiji Resort and Sheraton Denarau Villas, the award winning Heavenly Spa by Westin is beautifully designed and carefully constructed to blend in with the lush and peaceful environment.

LAUCALA ISLAND RESORT FIJI
Built to accommodate 100 guests and 400 staff, Laucala’s 25 Villas are all stylish versions of traditional Fijian dwellings. Seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living creates an inspiringly relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere. A collection of dining options compliments the exotic and elegant settings amid coconut palms, sandy beaches, rich green mountains, lagoon style pools and scenic views. A gym and spa facility only rivaled by few, wedding chapel, cultural village, staff quarters, back of house, administration facilities and off-island staff accommodation on Onodere Island.
As main contractor for this unparalleled lavish and private 7 Star island paradise, PBS required staffing 1500+ employees, 160 Subcontractors from Indonesia, China and other Pacific Islands functioning in multiple work fronts and major logistical challenges of building on outer islands in Fiji. Truly something special, Laucala Island Resort is an exclusive almost entirely self-sufficient private tropical hideaway – beautifully designed and incredibly tasteful.
PACIFIC EYE INSTITUTE FIJI
PBS was awarded the design-build contract for the country’s and indeed the region’s first Pacific Eye Institute.
The facility houses a fully-equipped eye clinic, two-controlled air-procedure rooms (a new concept in the country), classrooms for post-graduate students specialising in eye health and a resource centre. The building serves as a testament to the management, success and efficiency of PBS as it was completed a full 2 months ahead of schedule. It also displays some of the latest building techniques employed by PBS including pre-cast, polished concrete for a unique and elegant façade, local hardwood carving accents and a special, weather-resistant glazing for the exterior of the building. PBS has since been inundated with requests for upgrades to many outdated medical facilities around the country as a result of the ultramodern Pacific Eye Institute facility.
WYNDHAM VACATION RESORT FIJI
WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham commissioned PBS to design, develop and refurbish their pool area and café, reception and lobby, kids club and to relocate and construct a new restaurant.
In addition to this phase of development included the construction of 63 new luxurious apartments positioned around landscaped gardens and a new pool with swim up bar. The site works associated with the units include a complete landscape and irrigation system, connecting pathways, lighting and signage.
Villas included 1-3 bedrooms Grand Suites and 3-4 bedroom spectacular oceanfront Presidential Suites, all stylish, contemporary designs with Fijian elements throughout the interiors. The Presidential Suites include private pools all with high standard finishing aimed to provide owners with the utmost in resort accommodation.
NANUKU RESORT & SPA FIJI
The quintessential South Pacific Paradise set along the coastline of Viti Levu, Nanuku Resort & Spa is a stunning 18 Balinese-style suites and villas beachfront resort.
Acclaimed for its blend of contemporary luxury and traditional Fijian culture, Nanuku commissioned PBS to build, fit out and refurbish the property. The new look features a porte cochere entry into a newly upgraded facility, new reception and administration buildings, a stylish boutique, spa treatment and yoga centre, spacious kitchen and dining areas as well private dining facilities, activities bure, pool bar, day bed bure and the sunset deck all facing the magnificent newly built horizon edge swimming pool and tranquil waters. The project also includes outdoor decks, back of house and staff lockers building, new driveways, walkways and guest carparks.
CWM HOSPITAL EAST WING REFURBISHMENT FIJI
Government, through the Ministry of Health, is focused on modernizing health facilities with top of the range technology as well as providing an improved level of health care to all Fijians.
In December 2012 PBS signed a $10M refurbishment and extension of the East Wing operating theatres complex including a new PARU, Recovery Unit, Critical Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit and Burns Unit. These specialist facilities such as the Neurology, Cardiac and Orthopedic theatres will change the total perception of Healthcare in Fiji. The third out of four major healthcare design and build projects, carried out by a separate divisional entity known as PBS Health who produced the master plan to ensure intent and common goal from all parties to not only achieve the best possible outcome but to create free flowing, procedure based designs.
LIKULIKU LAGOON RESORT FIJI
From the air, Likuliku Lagoon Resort looks like an idyllic ancient village, thatched roofs and an exotic mix of natural and traditional materials and architecture. But these are no ordinary Fijian Bures, the first and only overwater bures in Fiji, Likuliku is far more deluxe than a traditional hut.
At 646 sq. ft. each of the 10 overwater bures has a spacious bedroom area and a pavilion bathroom half the size looking straight out into paradise. Your own private terrace with steps into the sea and of course your own glass floor window that allows you to see the waters and watch marine life at night. Subtle luxury and a view to beat!
Contracted for the overwater bures, walkways and the “Masima” arrival pavilion in 2007, PBS returned to Likuliku in 2013 to commence repairs including over 20 land bures as a result of Cyclone Evan in 2012.
ANZ HOUSE RENOVATION FIJI
Commissioned by ANZ Bank for major renovations and external façade upgrade of ANZ House whilst fully operational. PBS implemented sequenced work fronts for 40 staff and subcontractors to ensure targets and deadlines were met for various levels with little or no disruptions to bank staff and customers.
The entire curtain wall system from Levels 1 to 7 were replaced for cyclone rating compliance and complete installation of new panels to give the building a newer exterior look. Safety compliance was imperative for this project due to the height of which the work was carried out.
THE PALMS APARTMENT, DENARAU ISLAND FIJI
The Palms Denarau, Fiji’s premier Executive Apartments and Accommodation is conveniently situated on Denarau Island, Fiji’s most popular playground. Its directly opposite the renowned Port Denarau Marina but still nestled safely and securely within a lush tropical garden vegetation.
Construction included 29 spacious self contained apartments complete with managers unit and attached office and small goods shop, swimming pool and parking area with covered guest drop off entry. NADI AIRPORT TERMINAL MODERNISATION PROJECT (NATMP)
AFL commenced the NATMP in July 2013, an upgrade aimed at enhancing the passenger travel experience and optimizing the airport’s commercial revenue. It is one of the major steps taken by the Fiji Government to make Nadi the world’s leading small airport and ATM provider.
PBS entered into a joint venture partnership with Hawkins NZ as the main contractor.
The $105m terminal upgrade involved a complete renovation of the international terminal facilities, along with major airside extensions. The project included significant structural changes, a complete makeover of the facility covering a floor area of 25,000m², which includes retail spaces, lounges, airline gates, public spaces, office space and back-of-house areas.
A new chilled water system and an energy-efficient building management system with monitoring systems was installed. Fire sprinkler systems of the firefighting system was upgraded along with storage tanks, booster pumps, fire electrical services and fire service mains.
Comms and data infrastructure was completely replaced with a new fibre-based system to enable an IP-based support system. All new escalators and lifts of which three new ones were added.
Complete new Lighting and low-voltage power systems, emergency backup systems upgraded with new generators and the security and access control systems across the terminal to IATA and ICAO requirements.
Other works include the development of external landscaping, carparks and irrigation systems.
THE PEARL SOUTH PACIFIC RESORT
The $85 Million transformation of the Pearl Resort is a very welcomed milestone in the development of the tourism industry in Fiji. A new opulent Pearl Resort, notably more modern with a combination of local and foreign feel – from 78 guest rooms the Pearl has now expanded to 210 rooms, a new 400 seat convention centre, 250-seat brasserie, a fine dining restaurant, a spa and wellness centre, a gymnasium, a wedding chapel and impressive reception facilities and the new marina with 20 yachts berthing capacity.
Owners, PNG based Mineral Resources & Development Corporation had the foresight and capacity to unlock the potential not only for the resort, but also for the Pacific Habour Area and for the Fiji Tourism industry, significantly boosting local employment during construction stage and will continue as it capitalizes on the growing tourism global interest in Fiji.
BULA VOU (NEW LIFE) – BREWHOUSE
Designing the new Brewhouse Project commenced back in mid 2013 with work starting in mid 2014. The development involved the replacement of the entire brewing facilities – fully automated and the latest state of the art technology means optimizing the quality and consistency of their products. The new installation was completed entirely in parallel with the old equipment and within the current site footprint while their operations remained unaffected throughout.
Suva Brewery employs 119 people and produces Fiji Bitter, Fiji Gold, Vonu Pure Lager and Fiji Premium as well as a range of Ready To Drink (RTD) products including Bounty Rum and Cola, and the Tribe range.
LAUCALA ISLAND RESORT – REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE AND THATCHING POST TC WINSTON
Fiji’s premier private island retreat reopened its doors July 1, 2016 following the forced closure as a result of Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Winston that devastated the Fiji Group in February.
While the villas sustained very little structural damages, landscaping and decorative damages and maintenance to the villas and public spaces required immediate restoration to bring it back to its immaculate beauty. Given our experience with the island and the resort, we were in a very unique position to complete both phase 1 and phase 2 works within the 4-month timeframe.
FMF NEW BISCUIT FACTORY FIJI
Contracted to build the new biscuit factory in Vesari, Lami. Commercial shed with office space and amenities.
Construction of slab ground with mezzanine office floor/space – 300m2 with concrete external walls and steel structure columns/roof framing with metal clad roof, including full fire sprinkler system to building, external fencing with hardstand.
FIJI AIRWAYS FLAGSHIP LOUNGE
Contracted for the construction of the brand new state-of-the-art Fiji Airways business class lounge at Nadi International Airport.
The 200-seat lounge offers a world-class lounge experience along with a dedicated family area, a Quiet Zone and a Media Room which doubles as a private meeting space. It is one of the first lounges in the Australasian region to have a designated children’s room.
Fiji Airways Premier Lounge is a first-of-its-kind for the region complete with a number of special features including chef-inspired menus, baristas, luxury spa, nanny service and the exclusive ‘Fiji Bean Cart’. Other notable elements of the lounge include a live greenery wall and a constellation of stars on the ceiling representing the Fijian summer and winter skies.
TROPICAL CYCLONE WINSTON RECOVERY – REPAIR & RECONSTRUCTION
Awarded the contract for Repairs and Reconstruction Works in Northern Lau for NZ Foreign Affairs & Aid Programme. Repairs and reconstruction of school buildings, staff quarters, ablution facilities at Cikobia, Mavana, Lomaloma, Daliconi and Mualevu in Northern Lau. Each of these locations include school buildings which are designated evacuation centres for the villages.
HOLIDAY INN REFURBISHMENT PROJECT
In August 2015, FNPF Hotel Resorts Limited embarked on a significant renovation of its Holiday Inn property in Suva, which was acquired by the FHRL (a subsidiary company of the Fiji National Provident Fund) in 2005.
The 130 guest rooms, including three suites, have all been fully transformed to offer a contemporary, luxury look while retaining the warm and inviting atmosphere guests have always enjoyed. The interior design gives the rooms a rich, colourful and opulent feel, by adding a touch of masi designs and turquoise to go with white, including mixed furnishings and accessories.
In August 2017, PBS was recommissioned for the public area facilities – renovation of central facility ground floor including main entry lobby, reception, bar lounge and bar. External works include relocation of Bure 1, new exposed aggregate floor slabs and new vergola system complete with steel structure, seals, rain sensor and manual control with new fire alarm system.
NANUKU AUBERGE RESORT COURTYARD VILLAS
Newly built, contemporary one and two-bedroom villas set along a prime two-mile-long stretch of white sandy beach on the resort’s eastern edge facing the clear turquoise waters of the Beqa Lagoon. Nanuku Auberge Resort has opened 13 new luxury villas, increasing the resort’s overall accommodation to 37 suites, villas and residences. There is definitely no lack of ocean views. Or space.
Construction of 13 double and single storey luxury beachfront villas with contained private courtyards with individual plunge pools and poolside day beds. Reinforced concrete slabs, beams and block walls finished with weatherboard linings and/or beach coral sand plaster finish. Roof framing is exposed pole internally for authentic Fijian look with traditional artwork and finishes against white lining boards in vaulted ceilings. Roof covering is eco-friendly composite shingles. Joinery includes hi-gloss white finish European style kitchens, cabinets and wardrobes. Incorporating fully tiled ensuite, open frame vanities with stone tops and under mount vanities, framed off wall vanity mirrors and free standing and sunken bathtubs. Ensuite and pool outdoor showers, balconies with island views, seamless toughened glass pool fencing. Included is individual arrival bures with buggy parking and link way to Villa and associated hardscape. Tropical landscaping and contoured access paths.
Due to the location in the heart of the Pacific Coast on Viti Levu, this new accommodation offering in Fiji will be a hit with families who have active teenagers and teens not keen on traditional kids clubs. Close by is a plethora of activities including golf, zip lining, white water rafting, trekking, surfing and for the ‘no fear’ family members, bull shark diving – that is cageless bull shark diving.
NEW DORMITORIES FOR LDS CHURCH COLLEGE
Construction of three main structures including male, female and parent accommodation, dining area, kitchen, store room, covered walkways, concrete car park, gravel road and perimeter fencing.
Main structure is generally in reinforced concrete and block works, roof framing in structural steel with metal roofing. Joinery – mainly in stainless steel and timber with tiled floors.
The new facilities cater for 104 students with two sets of family apartments for parents with young children. PBS is thrilled to have completed the project on time to allow students from across Melanesia to settle into their new dorms as the 2020 new school year begins.
