Hospital Upgrade Works

MORE than 50 per cent of construction works at the Lautoka Hospital’s accident and emergency unit have been completed. Health Ministry media liaison officer Sunil Chandra said the unit should be ready towards the end of the year.

“There will be four new operating theatres after works finish,” he said. “This will be a boost to Lautoka Hospital. “Also, this is an extension to the accident and emergency unit.” Mr Chandra said this unit had been a top priority for the ministry because accidents and emergencies occurred at any time. “This unit will be fully operational at all times. When emergencies are received at the hospital, it will always be attended to. “The work is ongoing and we are on target. As soon as it is finished, we will inform the media and the public of its opening.” The extension and renovation has cost Government about $6.5million.
