WorldMark Resort Denarau Island Ready for Major Redevelopment

Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific is pleased to announce that construction of Stage 3 of WorldMark Resort Denarau Island, expected to be one of the largest tourism developments currently being undertaken in Fiji, will commence early November 2011.

In signing the agreement for commencement of construction, Barry Robinson, Managing Director of Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific said, “We are pleased to partner with Fijian construction company Pacific Building Solutions (PBS) on the project to expand WorldMark Resort Denarau Island. PBS was chosen because of their excellent track record building high-quality resorts in the South Pacific.”

“Our commitment to providing first-class accommodations and facilities to WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham owners and guests is reflected in this significant redevelopment of this property, which was purchased in 1998 and the first in our portfolio that now encompasses 23 resorts throughout the Asia Pacific region,” Mr. Robinson added.

The redevelopment and extensive renovation will include construction of 63 new spacious and luxurious styles of accommodations ranging from one and two-bedroom deluxe apartments to presidential villas with private plunge pools overlooking the ocean.

Based on design concepts by Australian architects Guymer Bailey, the design, construction, architecture, and fit-out with furniture, fixtures and equipment of the resort redevelopment will be undertaken by Fijian firm Architects Pacific under the direction of PBS with mostly local Fijian consultants, subcontractors and suppliers employed in the redevelopment.

Michael Fairfax, Managing Director of PBS, said “We are excited and ready to tackle this project and thankful to Wyndham Vacation Ownership for making this large commitment in Fiji and choosing us to design and build it. This will likely be the largest building construction job in Fiji and we expect to employ hundreds of workers and subcontractors in a variety of trades over the course of the next 18 months and look forward to setting a new benchmark for quality construction on Denarau, especially in relation to the high-end presidential villas.”

The enhancements boast an expansive pool area refurbishment with a pool side café; additional pool with swim up bar; the expansion and redevelopment of the resort reception and lobby plus the relocation and construction of a new restaurant all the while maintaining the tropical environment of the resort. Owners and guests will also enjoy the new accommodation of one, two, and three-bedroom deluxe apartments, contemporary in design, incorporating Fijian elements throughout the interiors, plus the three-bedroom ocean view grand suites and three and four-bedroom luxurious oceanfront presidential villas. Additionally, construction will be localised to the new building area, providing minimal impact to guests staying at the resort during the redevelopment.

In alignment with Wyndham Green, Wyndham Worldwide’s global sustainability initiative, many environmentally sustainable features will be incorporated into the redevelopment, including the use of local timbers, natural light and cross flow ventilation, energy saving lighting and water saving devices, plus energy efficient cooling systems.

The existing building was developed in the late 1990s with resort rooms undergoing refurbishment since that time. At the completion of the total redevelopment, anticipated to be mid 2013, the resort will emerge as a flagship Wyndham Vacation Resorts property showcasing signature first-class resort accommodation and attention to detail.

“This property has been one of our most popular resorts in our portfolio,” said Mr. Robinson. “Our owners and guests absolutely love the resort, the tropical location and the welcoming Fijian hospitality they receive while they’re staying there. With the new development, I anticipate WorldMark Resort Denarau Island to become our jewel in the crown.”

Located on a picturesque beachfront, WorldMark Resort Denarau Island is situated a short drive from Nadi Town, with easy access to a range of retail and restaurant outlets and a variety of cruises that provide island-hopping tours and other tropical water activities. With friendly, welcoming staff, this resort is the perfect base to experience Fiji.
