Work Goes Ahead For Multi-Million Dollar Bridge

CONSTRUCTION work has started on the support beams for the new multi-million dollar Denarau bridge in Nadi.

Pacific Marine and Civil Solutions general manager Noel McManaway said the Chinese manufactured abutment beams arrived earlier this month.

“The beams were manufactured in China under supervision of the Australian company who supplied these,” Mr McManaway said.

“The bridge beams were then reloaded on to one of our company barges to transfer these from Lautoka to Denarau.

“This was necessary due to the length and weight which would have made it very difficult to transport by road.

“The longer beams are 36 metres long and weigh 30 tonnes.

“We are currently undertaking the installation of the new piles and starting the construction of the bridge abutment beams.

“This will take approximately one and half months.”

Mr McManaway added no disruptions to the work had been experienced so far.

The $7.5million project is fully funded by the Government.
